And just like that, it's nearly December. The holiday hustle can be a real balancing act that oftentimes leaves us stressed, tired and not-so-jolly. Consider us your loyal, helper elves as we share our stress-free travel tips for flying with your toddler.
Easy shoes, easy travel
Taking your shoes on and off at airport security is a real pain—especially when you’re helping your little one do it too. Ditch the lace-ups (we know they’re oh so cute), and instead dress your little one in Velcro shoes.
Plan and pack in advance
When travelling with toddlers, it seems that every time we arrive at our destination, we’ve somehow forgotten something crucial. Your little one’s favourite socks? The blanket they can’t sleep without? Avoid the tantrums and make a list in advance of all the essentials. This will not only save you time when packing but will also help you ensure you have everything in your bag upon your return home.
Pack plenty of yummy goodies
When in transit, we want to avoid cranky toddlers at all costs. If your little one is a picky eater (aren’t they all?), be sure to pack plenty of their favourite snacks. If you’re stressed about prepping your favorite toddler milk, worry not! Designed with travel in mind, our LittleOak Sachets are perfect for these on-the-go occasions. And just like the cans you know and love, these sachets are packed with all the nutritional goodness to keep your little one nourished while you’re on the road. Leave the hassle behind – simply pour, shake and feed. Pro tip: feeding during take-off and landing can help ease discomfort and reduce that ear-pressure.
Bring extra clothes in your carry-on
Of course, things don’t always go as planned and, as mums and dads, we've learned this one first-hand. Prepare for the unexpected, because there’s nothing worse than wearing your little one's lunch. Spare clothes are a game changer for those inevitable toddler messes.
Toddler on Board
Many planes have cabin restrictions that don’t allow prams – be sure to do your research and check your airline's policy on this. For the most part, many airlines will charge a fee when you gate-check a pram or car seat for little ones over 2 years of age. Another thing, if you’ve ever picked up your suitcase looking well-battered at the baggage claim, you may want to invest in a pram bag for extra protection. Hint: this also gives you some extra storage space!
Layers, layers, and more layers
For whatever reason, the temperature on a plane always seems to fluctuate. One minute you’re freezing, wishing you had a blanket, and the next you find yourself working up a sweat. Be sure to dress your little one in layers so they can stay comfortable during the journey. Same goes for you, mum – make sure to layer up!
While the travel season can be overwhelming at times, it’s always worth it in the end. We hope these tips help you as you plan your travels next month.
